What clients say
BWA has had the pleasure in working with Hodge Demolition on several demolition and soft strip out projects since 2016. We were greatly impressed with their communication skills, workmanship, and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for all.
Questions before you start
The guide explains the rules on council notices, asbestos surveys and waste.
Read the guideDo you need an asbestos survey before a strip-out?
Yes. HSE guidance says asbestos must be removed, as far as is reasonably practicable, before major refurbishment or demolition. A refurbishment and demolition survey finds it first, and it involves opening up the parts of the building that the strip-out will disturb.

What happens to the materials?
Materials are separated into skips as they come out, so that metal, timber, plasterboard and general waste go to the right sites. Each load leaves with a waste transfer note under our Environment Agency registration, CBDU447191.
Do you need a Section 80 notice for internal work?
Not when the work is an internal part of a building that is in use and will stay in use: the Act exempts it. If the building is empty and the strip-out is the first stage of a full demolition, the notice is needed before the demolition starts.
